Today’s youth’s opinion on Europe

May 9th, Europe Day.  Europeans celebrate the Schuman Declaration which was proposed on the 9th of May 1950 by French foreign minister Robert Schuman. On this day Schuman proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community. He was convinced that a political European Union was the only way to keep a peaceful continent. “Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity,” he said. This Coal and Steel Community was the first step. 74 years later, it has evolved and grown. It has become the European Union as we know it. But what does the European youth think about the European concept? Are they as convinced of Europe’s strength as Schuman was?
